Michael & Sarah's Deep Cove Wedding

This past summer I had a wonderful opportunity to photograph an amazing wedding in Deep Cove, BC. Michael and Sarah got married on their families estate overlooking the ocean at sunset… From the gorgeous silver place settings, to the ornate beading on the bride's dress this wedding exuded class and taste! Wanting to capture the feeling of the day I shot this wedding with a very vintage look, almost like it was the movie "Great Gatsby" or "Evita" with amazing dresses, to die for jewels, and most of all a great love story!

Graduation...a look back...

Now I know many of you who have checked out my blog in the past are used to mainly seeing photographs of my work....I don't tend to write much mainly because for the past year I have been attending Western Academy of Photography, working part-time, teaching photography classes at work, and watching over my kid/stepkids (which means 1 to 4 kids in the house at any given time). Needless to say it has been a stressful and VERY busy time!

Now that structured classes are over and my final portfolio has been printed, signed, sealed, and delivered I find that I have quite a bit more time for writing. Something that has been a passion of mine for a number of years. In fact I majored in English at the University of Calgary after high school and some of my best memories are of parsing Shakespeare, and debating the merits of Fantasy/Sci-Fi envisionings of our worlds....

But I digress...

As I come to the end of my Professional Photography year I look back over the courses and assignments with amazement. It was fun to watch how I struggled with exposure and aperture so much in the first few months...then just as I started to feel I was grasping those things they threw Photoshop lessons at me! To say I was Lightroom and Photoshop illiterate is an understatement....I didn't even know there were things called sRGB or what exactly Raw vs. Jpeg really meant in terms of photo quality... Yes those of you with a lot photographic knowledge are probably gasping in shock at my lack of learnings or nodding that once upon a time you too were just a beginner :)

I look back at the past year and am so grateful.

So grateful for the amazing teachers who taught me not only how to take better pictures but how to SEE better pictures. For showing me completely new ways of looking at landscapes and people so that I am no longer afraid to try new things and see where some creativity can lead me and my lens.

I am also so lucky to have had the chance to work with some great classmates who challenged me and forced me to defend my work in critiques as a way to thicken my skin.

Now that my program is past its time to look forward and step into the new world of small-business ownership and financial planning.... I hope you check back and follow along as I continue to grow my business and follow my dreams!
